Edmonton Police Service (EPS) has partnered with Sport Central to keep their trunks stocked with sport ball kits for the kids they meet, so they can help foster an interest in sports.

At first glance, they don’t look like much. A gym bag loaded with deflated sport balls and an air pump. But once the balls are inflated, the real fun begins. And the best part is the kids get to keep the kits!

The kits provide EPS officers with another way to engage youth and open lines of communication. The officers also pick up bikes and deliver them to kids in need.

“We want to build bonds between ourselves and the youth, so we’re seen as a person they can come and talk to and just have fun with,” says Sgt. Andrew Weaver. Watch for officers out in the community all summer long.
